The Canadian dojo of Sensei Manuel Desa was inducted into Kenyukai North America in 2008. Sensei Desa has been a friend of the Kenyukai for more than 15 years. During that time he and many of his students have attended all Koshukais. Sensei Desa has traveled from California to Florida to increase his understanding of the Kenyukai system of Uechi Ryu karate.
As a result he is known, and respected, by all the dojos of the Kenyukai. His training, heart and attitude reflect the spirit of Kenyukai and he is considered an asset to the organization.
To enhance that understanding and expedite the learning curve in the St. Albert dojo, North American Director Alan Dollar traveled to Canada for an intense four day indoctrination of the history and tradition, protocol and procedures, Kenyukai spirit and the technical aspects of Uechi Ryu karate as it is practiced by the Kenyukai World Organization.
The first Kenyukai black belt test to be held in Canada resulted in eighteen new shodans to yondans.
Assistant Director Mike Nazar will be conduct further Kenyukai training in St. Albert in spring 2009. Sensei Desa and a large number of students will be joining the rest of Kenyukai in Florida for Koshukai 2009 in June.
